Installing

Windows

Open the .msi and follow the installer. It asks for administrator permission because it installs the app for everyone on the PC. While the app is new, Windows SmartScreen may say “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, check that the publisher is Lyricist Pro, Inc, then choose Run anyway.

macOS

Open the .dmg and drag Lyricist Pro into Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other. macOS asks for microphone access the first time you dictate or record.

Linux

For the .deb, run sudo apt install ./Lyricist*.deb in the folder you downloaded it to; apt installs what it needs. For the AppImage, make it executable with chmod +x Lyricist*.AppImage and run it. AppImages need FUSE 2: on Ubuntu, install libfuse2 (libfuse2t64 on 24.04 and later).

Updates and verifying downloads

The app keeps itself up to date: it checks for a new version when it starts and every six hours, and you can check any time in Settings → Updates.

To verify a download, compare its SHA-256 (under each button) with the output of Get-FileHash on Windows, shasum -a 256 on macOS or sha256sum on Linux. Every file’s checksum is also in the release’s SHA256SUMS file.

What’s new in 0.1.5

  • Dictation on Windows is several times faster.
  • Windows: the app now starts on PCs that don't have the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime installed.
  • Dictation now uses Silero voice detection as intended, so it is better at telling speech from pauses and background noise.
  • Speech model downloads are checked when they finish; an interrupted or damaged download is fetched again.
  • On processors too old for dictation (from before about 2013), the app now says so instead of closing.
  • Each account signed in on the same computer now keeps its own songs, settings, writing goals, recent searches and cloud backup connection.
  • With "keep recordings after session" off, signing out now removes that account's recordings, and closing the app removes only the signed-in account's.
  • Edits made while a sync is in progress are no longer lost.
  • The editor no longer saves a song with a blank title; it asks for one.
  • If an update can't install, you can download the new version directly.
  • Linux: installs from the .deb package can now update themselves.
  • Settings > Updates shows how the app was installed and can open the app's log folder, which helps if you contact us for support.
